Many weeks back we were given the task of researching different brands and finding what is innovative about them. Familiar with Diesel and their ‘make love not walls’ advert, I decided to delve deeper into their marketing strategy and I was pleasantly surprised.

First up I took a look at their video adverts and found that they are all humorous and it shows that the brand really doesn’t take themselves too seriously. One that stood out was the ‘Flaws Always Win’ campaign. The video starts with a man who has big ears that he is insecure about so he has some surgery to have them smaller, he then meets a woman and falls in love with her. They get married and have a young boy. The baby has large ears and a turned up nose. They then show a flashback of the woman who had a large nose and she also had surgery to reduce the size. Their son now has both their flaws but they love him for it.

Next I found the ‘Go With The Fake’ campaign. Where they printed t shirts and jeans with the logo misspelled as ‘DEISEL’. They then sold them on the streets of New York, they told people they were legit Diesel items however people laughed it off and refused to buy. I found this campaign hilarious. Imagine coming across these t shirts and not buying them only to find out you could have got Diesel products for £30 and less. You must watch this on Youtube!
I have a new found respect for Diesel and their advertisements as they all have a meaning as well as having a comedic aspect to them.
