Gender Pay Gap

The gender pay gap, yes its still a thing! Reports came out at the start of the week showing that fashion and beauty brands, which predominantly have female consumers and also employ more female staff than male, were among the worst in the country in terms of paying men more than women.
The number one excuse seems to be that the men are at the top of the chain, they have the executive roles whereas women are more likely to be employed in the entry level, retail and design job roles.
‘Take Condé Nast Publications Limited, publisher of magazines such as Vogue, Vanity Fair, Glamour and GQ. The company reported data on Tuesday that revealed it to have the largest mean gender pay gap favoring men among all British media publishers and broadcasters, despite having more women than men at every pay quartile.’
Other well known brands included Victorias Secret, Benefit and Burberry. At Burberry, where women make up 70 percent of the luxury fashion group’s employees, there is a 26 percent gender pay gap in favor of men, who get higher bonuses too.
I’m so shocked that business’ still pay women less money and get away with it. I really thought that the fashion industry would be different as most of their staff and customers are female and in this new generation of feminism fashion brands have been making changing certain things so why not the pay?
