Earlier this week we had a seminar about historical ‘trend setters’. Our lecturer gave us a quick biography on these 4 people. Juliette Recamier (1777-1849), Beau Brummell (1778-1840), Cleo de Merode (1875-1966) and Evander Berry Wall (1860-1940). The idea of the seminar was to compare them to celebrities now. However I really loved learning about these 4 people and I wanted to do some more research into their lives.
My favourite story was that of Beau Brummell. He is known to have changed the direction of mens fashion. He was an iconic figure in the Regency period. He is credited with introducing the modern mens suit. He had a great appreciation of beauty, he enjoyed the vulgar things of life and was regarded as someone with cool composure and charm. He is defined as one of the unique characters in Fashion History. He claimed that it took him 5 hours a day to dress…
This was such a fun and informative seminar and it was so interesting to hear about the lives of the men and women who created our trends!
