‘The Met Gala is an annual fundraising gala for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City. It marks the grand opening of the Costume Institute’s annual fashion exhibit. Each year’s event celebrates the theme of that year’s Costume Institute exhibition, and the exhibition sets the tone for the formal dress of the night, since guests are expected to choose their fashion to match the theme of the exhibit.’
This years theme was ‘Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination’. I was extremely interested to see how designers would interpret this as I didn’t want people to be dressed as nuns… However when the images were released I was in awe of the stunning gowns, and thankfully this year I felt as though everyone had stuck to the theme. Here are a few of my favourites:
Kim… Obviously! Dressed in Versace, she wore this gorgeous, gold, skin tight, floor length dress. It was adorned with embellished crosses. There are speculations that her dress was inspired by the ‘holy cup’. #Trophywife.

Ariana Grande was dressed in an incredible Vera Wang gown. The dress was screen printed in images from Michelangelo’s iconic ceiling in the Sistine Chapel. This is definitely a favourite of mine!

Blake Lively’s crimson dress apparently took 4 months to make. Designed by Versace, it had a jewel-encrusted gold corset, with a long train featuring sheer panels and gold embroidering.

Kylie Jenner. Maybe I’m biased because I’m a huge Kardashian/Jenner fan but wow. She looked incredible. Kylie wore a simple, black Alexander Wang gown with a long train. Unfortunately, I don’t see how this fits in with the theme? Instead I think she looks like an extra from the Matrix…

And on to my complete favourite gown… Stella Maxwell in a Moschino dress, MAJOR heart eyes. The bustier dress was in a cream silk satin decorated with buckles, graphics representing faces of Madonnas and applications of crystals, baguettes, stones and sequins, was very bold and sensual. I am honestly in LOVE with this dress and I think Stella pulled it off so, so well. Might have been too ‘obviously’ religious but it was honestly my favourite of this year.

What was your favourite outfit of the night?
