I wrote a post back in November about Athleisure and we still cannot escape the trend! I am not complaining, I honestly love sportswear as everyday wear. So I’ve noticed that TRAINERS are the big obsession this season, with the classic brands Nike, Adidas and Reebok rebooting their trainers to be more ‘fashionable’, and now bigger designer brands are designing trainers such as Gucci and Chanel.

Gucci, Reebok, Chanel

We are a society that love comfort which is why I think the trainer trend is here to stay. Some designers are trying to spice up the classic white trainer so on the catwalk footwear has been out of the ordinary. Fendi and Balenciaga have created the ‘sock trainer’ that some high street stores are now imitating. In the U.S 75% of trainers are bought for aesthetic purposes not their performance, in my opinion these sock trainers are a clear indication of that as I can’t imagine them being very practical.

As designers are looking for a new way to design the trainer they have turned to referencing 90’s and 00’s popular culture. And this has lead to the return of ‘UGLY’ fashion. Fashion has always had a thing for transforming and rebranding the ‘ugly’ and that is what the likes of Yeezy, Vetaments and even FILA are doing with the trainer. They have reintroduced the clunky DAD shoe.

Opinions??? I love the trainer trend but I am not a fan of the chunky, DAD trainer!
