What is FCP ?

Starting university seemed like the scariest thing but as I deferred a year I was more than excited to start. I counted down the days till the 22nd September when I could make the journey to Nottingham Trent University. And two weeks later I can safely say I do not regret a thing. I was slightly apprehensive to start my course which is Fashion Communication and Promotion (FCP) just because it was something completely new and its quite a difficult course to describe. The lecturers are encouraging us to start a blog and it’s something I’ve always wanted to do so this is a push in the right direction. For my first post I just wanted to talk about FCP.
What is FCP?
I always get asked this question, mostly by friends of my parents and I find it so hard to put into words what exactly the course is. For our first seminar we had a discussion in groups talking about fashion communication. So in its simplest terms as an FCP student I am the ‘middle man’ between the brand and the consumer, I don’t really deal with the final product but everything around it that leads up to the sell. Fashion promotion is very creative and therefore different to fashion marketing/management which deals with numbers and facts. The creativity is one of the main reason I love this course so much as I love being able to make things either by hand using methods such as collage or even digitally using Photoshop.
Where can this course lead to?
Another reason why this course is so great is because of the many different paths it can take you down. It can give you a career in press and PR, visual merchandising, branding, fashion buying, web design, trend and research. I’m not entirely sure which route I want to take yet but something I am super passionate about is magazines and advertising so hopefully this course will be able to help me out with that.
The blog
So we have been asked to keep a blog and we get given blog briefs/ inspiration for posts after every lecture and seminar. I want to try and keep up with regularly blogging but I’ve only been at uni for 2 weeks and I’m already overwhelmed by the volume of work that I’ve been set. I’ll use the blog as a platform to talk about my uni experience and my interests in particular fashion topics.
Enjoy!
