Zara is one of my favourite places to browse on line and in store, and I can’t go in there without spending money. So when I saw an article on Business of Fashion about their plans to launch a new app I was very excited to find out more. Their idea is to introduce an Augmented Reality app experience in the flagship stores. The app allows customers to hold up their phone to a sensor in store, and see models walking and talking, wearing clothes from the Zara range which you can then click through and buy.
Statistics have shown that millennials favour online shopping to purchasing in store. So by Zara targeting the digital world they are clearly trying to bring in a younger audience. However, as exciting as this sounds Zara are quite late to the technology party, with Burberry, Rimmel and Gap being just a few brands that has been using Augmented Reality (AR) to allow customers to ‘try on’ the products. Apple CEO Tim Cook predicts that this is just the beginning for AR and Fashion, he told VOGUE that he thinks every sector and industry will be using AR in some way.
In addition to online shopping, the app also encourages its users to share the experience on social media by taking and uploading photos of the hologram models. You can download the app from the app store or by scanning the QR code in store.
